It’s Vincent Van Gogh’s birthday today.

When we were afraid to breathe air

we breathed art instead

and let ourselves be consumed

with colours and stories and light

when the rich hoarded their wealth

and the scared hoarded toilet paper

we created and shared our creations

trying to help the entire world

breathe a little easier

look a little brighter

and it worked

the art gave us peace when we needed it most

it healed the parts of the world long neglected

it brought humanity together

it gave us hope

it passed the time

it saved our lives

and when all was said and done

when the films were consumed and books read

and the world picked back up again

it forgot what art had done for us

it left art and the artists behind

so that the next time the world had no air

we weren’t there.
